What you will be able to do
- Identify a recurring pattern
- Check sentence relationships
- Choose words that fit together
Identify a recurring pattern
Use several examples to decide what needs practice. One accidental typo and a repeated sentence-boundary problem should not receive the same attention.
Check sentence relationships
Find where one complete idea ends and another begins. Fixing run-on sentences often improves clarity more than inserting additional linking words.
Choose words that fit together
Check collocations in a reliable dictionary. A synonym may share a broad meaning while sounding unnatural in the chosen phrase.
Build cohesion through reference
Pronouns, repeated key terms and logical order help readers follow meaning. A connector at every sentence opening does not create a coherent argument.
Work through an original example
Draft: “People do mistakes, however education is important it gives knowledge.” Several problems are mixed together.
Revision: “People make mistakes. Education can help them recognise a problem and respond more effectively.” The wording now has controlled sentence boundaries and a natural collocation.

Why this version works
Answer: The correction clarifies meaning; it does not establish that the claim answers an essay question.
Practise, check and try a changed task
Choose one old paragraph. Mark sentence boundaries, references and three word combinations to check.
Write one new paragraph on a different topic using the corrected pattern. An error log should support future writing, not just perfect an old draft.
- Check the meaning against the original task, rather than rewarding impressive wording alone.
- Keep one concrete observation and one next action; avoid treating a single attempt as a complete assessment.
Continue with focused practice
Use the exercise to identify the kind of feedback you need. The IELTS Preparation programme page describes the current learning format and practice. Compare its syllabus with your own task, starting level and available time before choosing training. Course participation alone does not establish professional competence or guarantee an outcome.
Guided communication practice
Would focused feedback help your next attempt?
Compare the current syllabus and learning format with the communication task you want to improve.
