Unit 1: Teaching Skills

On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:

Understand and apply tesol methodologies and language learning theories.
Plan and execute effective lessons integrating reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.

Unit 2: Language Awareness & Skills

On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:

Analyse linguistic form, function, and meaning in standard English.
Teach phonology, lexis, and grammar in a communicative context.
Identify and address learner difficulties and interlingual interference.
Utilise appropriate reference resources for language teaching.

Unit 3: Learner Profile

On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:

Conduct detailed needs and linguistic analyses for individual learners.
Design and implement tailored lesson plans based on learner profiles.
Evaluate learner progress and provide recommendations for further study.
Reflect on the effectiveness of one-to-one teaching sessions.

Unit 4: Materials Assignment

On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:

Create, adapt, and evaluate classroom teaching materials.
Implement materials effectively in teaching practice.
Produce written rationales and evaluations of teaching materials.
Discuss and reflect on the use of selected materials in the classroom.

Assessment for the CerTESOL Veritas course will be conducted through various methods to ensure a comprehensive evaluation of your skills and knowledge. The key components of the assessment are as follows:

Teaching Practice (TP): You will complete at least three hours of observed and assessed teaching practice with English language learners. Your performance will be evaluated based on your lesson planning, execution, and reflective practices.
Portfolios and Journals: You will maintain a Teaching Practice Portfolio that includes lesson plans, self-evaluations, and tutor evaluations. Additionally, a Guided Observation Journal will be kept to document observations of experienced teachers and reflect on their techniques and methods.
Written Assignments: You will be required to complete various written assignments, including a Language Awareness Test/Assignment, a comprehensive Learner Profile, and a Materials Assignment. These assignments will evaluate your understanding of linguistic concepts, your ability to analyze learner needs, and your skills in creating and evaluating teaching materials.
Participation and Attendance: Active participation in all course sessions and timely completion of all assignments are mandatory. Your commitment and engagement throughout the course will also be assessed.
Final Evaluation:An overall evaluation will be conducted, combining the results from all assessed units to determine if you meet the required standards for certification. This final evaluation will ensure a holistic assessment of your capabilities as an English language teacher.

Qualification Requirements for CerTESOL Veritas

Age: At least 18 years old.
Education: Equivalent to entry-level higher education (high school diploma or equivalent).
English Proficiency: High level in spoken and written English; minimum C1 on CEFR for non-native speakers.
Personal Qualities: Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Commitment: Full attendance and active participation required.
